The coastal town of Filey has a long and interesting story which can be divided into two parts.

“Old” Filey was for most of its life a village much resembling thousands of similar communities throughout England, with its inhabitants earning their living from the sea and the land.

“New” Filey is very much a 19th-century creation which came into being when Filey’s potential as a resort was recognised.

These two walks will show you something of the “old” and the “new”. Perhaps you will absorb a little of the atmosphere of Filey the fishing village and of the select resort in its Edwardian heyday.
